Charles Clendenin was born 1712 in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland and died 1793 in Fort Lee, Kanawha Co, VA.

The capital city of Charleston, WV was named for him by his son, James Clendenin. He is recorded as being the first to die at Fort Lee, now in Kanawha County, WV. He is buried at the Fort.

 

He married Mary Ann Patterson in Lancaster Co, PA. She was born about 1715 in Scotland and died 1788 in Spring Creek, Greenbrier Co, VA. She was the daughter of James Patterson.
